The remnants of Fort Vancouver still stand in Washington state’s fourth-largest city. During the middle of the 19th century, the Vancouver area was an important fur-trading center in the Pacific Northwest. While the main part of the city and its historic landmarks are clustered around the Columbia River, the northern end remains largely rural. It's in this area that a handful of farms have created petting zoos, giving kids of all ages the chance to get close to some furry and feathered friends.
